Huawei’s foldable smartphone in the Huawei Mate XS happens to be one of the most high profile foldable devices on the market right now – and now, it looks as if the rival of Huawei in Xiaomi is taking a page from Huawei’s own playbook as it looks to work on its very own foldable device – which could end up with a design much similar to what we have on the Mate XS.
Indeed it was recently discovered that Xiaomi actually filed a patent on the 5th of January of this year – this for the promotion and establishment of its very own foldable device. The particular patent goes on to show a device which tends to unfold from the left. This will turn into a square tablet-like device. If this in fact does end up in the markets one day, it would represent quite a departure from the double-fold prototype that Xiaomi first went to show off last year.

There is also on view much thicker portion found on one of the edges of the device – this also being much similar to what we see on the Huawei Mate XS. This specific portion of the device features with the device’s four cameras, a flash, as well as an additional button. Also, there can indeed be seen a USB-C port – something that we all expect from a modern day smartphone.
But caution should of course be taken as far as the case for patents go as we can’t be sure whether this particular device will ever see the light of day or not. But then again, considering the fact that the foldable smartphone market is actually picking up pace and seeing that many consumers do seem to be rather comfortable with paying the abnormal prices that these devices tend to demand,it would make sense for Xiaomi to get into this space. Until official confirmation though – nothing said can be for sure.
