It’s been no secret that Samsung has been working on a foldable smartphone for quite some time now, and finally after getting delayed more than a few times, the company finally looks set to unveil its highly anticipated foldable Galaxy X smartphone. Samsung mobile division CEO DJ Koh went as far as saying that the company might actually reveal the phone as early as November.
Though there are rumors that the first foldable smartphone by Samsung would indeed be called the Galaxy X, this is not at all confirmed, as all of it is based around circulating rumors. DJ Koh too did not specifically mention the Galaxy X, he just shed light to the point that the device which could possibly be unveiled in November would actually be foldable. Also, while speaking at the IFA electronics show held in Berlin not so long ago, Koh described the device as having a large variety of uses, other than the obvious glamor that the device will bring with it.
Koh stated:
“You can use most of the uses… on foldable status. But when you need to browse or see something, then you may need to unfold it. But even unfolded, what kind of benefit does that give compared to the tablet? If the unfolded experience is the same as the tablet, why would they (consumers) buy it? So every device, every feature, every innovation should have a meaningful message to our end customer. So when the end customer uses it, (they think) ‘wow, this is the reason Samsung made it’”.

If you look at it, going in depth, it can be seen that the Galaxy X’s mechanism is quite a bit similar to the system used is the classic flip phones we so often saw around a decade ago. However, instead of using a hinge, Samsung would actually be using a single, flexible and foldable screen. Koh’s recent comments seem to bode well for the Galaxy X, when taken into consideration the fact that he noted that the process of designing and developing the device, while complicated, is nearly concluded.
There were also some general functions that Koh went on to reveal to the public, including one mechanism in which he went on to explain that the smartphone would function similarly to a tablet when it’s unfolded.
It no doubt took a huge amount of time, however, now Samsung is finally ready to launch its first and upcoming foldable smartphone. While this probably will be the most revolutionary smartphone as of yet, we will have to see whether or not it was worth the wait.
