Redmi’s executive in Lu Weibing recently shared a video which showed off the Redmi K30 5G – as the devices was showcased achieving a refresh rate of 144Hz. The video that has a length of 15 seconds was first made available on Weibo, and then also on YouTube.
There have been many different interpretations with regards to the video, as it is ambiguous to say the very least. In any case though, it does seem quite obvious now though that the Redmi K30 5G will not actually feature with a 144Hz display refresh rate and the video was made available just to claim that if the Chinese company wanted that exact feature – it is indeed possible.
Interestingly enough, the previous version of the K series mobile phones in the Redmi K20 Pro was also capable of having a higher refresh rate integrated within itself than the native 60Hz display that was eventually made available. Modders were able to get the K20 Pro up to 75Hz with 90Hz also in theory being possible. However, the case for battery life could be made – as it suffers – higher the refresh rate.

With this in mind, it becomes all the more likely that battery life on the Redmi K30 5G with a 144Hz too would suffer. And hence, we expect there to be a 120Hz refresh rate integrated within – as Redmi has previously revealed.
It also should be noted at this point that the Redmi K30 5G will go on to feature with an IPS LCD display and not an OLED panel. We’ve already been accustomed to receive 120Hz display refresh rates on LCD panels – with the example of the Razer phone being introduced in 2017 being the prime one.
Because of the fact that they arrive on OLED panels, the 90Hz refresh rate displays that we see on both the OnePlus 7T as well as the Google Pixel 4 mean that they are generally considered to be of a higher quality.
