2019 is set to be the year that we see the 5G technology in action. With that said and done, it won’t be too long before we start to see the roll-out of 5G phones coming from major smartphone vendors. And while there aren’t too many front-runners, LG surely seems to he amongst the companies that are the most well-placed to launch a 5G phone. However, we’ve known this for some while, now. So why is LG making the news again? Well, it’s for different – not entirely, but different reasons! Apparently, the company is looking to be one step ahead of everyone, and has started to put plans in motion to prepare for 6G!
This week, the company had made an announcement stating that it had opened a dedicated research center which is located in the Yuseong District of Daejeon, South Korea. While you’d imagine the previous news in mind, this research center isn’t actually got the development of 6G products, rather, LG is aiming to “lead global standardization and secure new business creation opportunities.” The research institute is in affiliation, being established in partnership with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

While LG has estimated that it would probably take up and around to ten years before the transition from 5G to 6G could actually happen, the company has said that it wants to “prepare for the future industry”. LG has spent quite some time on the development of 5G technology, and it would be hoping to attract more customers for its smartphones than what it has managed to do in previous times.
