WhatsApp to use QR codes to support payments. The popular messaging app WhatsApp that has payments components is now getting ready to expand its types of payments that it supports. This expansion of payments will be made by rolling out the ability to support QR codes for payments.
Once the platform enables these payments, WhatsApp will be able to compete against Tez from Google, (Tez is already supporting peer-to-peer payments), and Hike (backed by China’s Tencent).
In addition to the payments through QR codes, WhatsApp has also added an Advanced GIF Search as well as Search Stickers functionality. Both of these features were disabled in the latest beta but now will appear again in future updates.
TechCrunch, in an unsourced report, has also reported the ability of WhatsApp to offer monetary transactions via QR code that is being enabled for users who are part of the Android beta, with a larger-scale rollout slated for the weeks to come. This feature will enable users to send money with QR codes as long as they have WhatsApp Payments.

The ability of WhatsApp to support QR codes comes on the heels of the service adding a latest feature that is called Send to UPI ID. This feature lets the users send money to any UPI ID.
Last year in July, as per the reports of TechCrunch WhatsApp, which has been owned by Facebook, could receive a nod from the Indian government to integrate UPI into the WhatsApp application.
This year in January, WhatsApp announced the launch of WhatsApp Business, which is a free Android app that targets all the small and medium-sized businesses. WhatsApp notes that this new app will make it easier for small businesses to connect with customers, including its already existing 1.3 billion users.
The company notes that people from all around the world use WhatsApp to connect with small businesses they care about, and these businesses range from online clothing companies in India to auto parts stores in Brazil.
As WhatsApp has been built for people, the company want to improve their business experience by making it easier for businesses to respond to their customers, separating customer & personal messages and creating an official presence.
