Valve is in a bid to remove Steam of fake games from a past few months. In this regard, the company has removed almost 200 games from Steam which is the biggest record removal of games in a single day in the history of the platform.
Valve has removed 173 games from Steam and Valve has confirmed it.
According to Polygon, Silicon Echo Studios was the developer of all of the removed games and there is also a good reason for Valve to remove games at such a scale.
The matter came into view after a video uploaded by a YouTuber SidAlpha in which he talked about his research on games developed by Silicon Echo Studios. According to that video, the studio’s titles accounted for 10% of all Steam games released in July and August. The video can be seen below.
There were many reasons for the game’s removal except of “asset-flipping” .As the games were also available for cheap rates and players could make use of them to collect Steam Trading cards and then they put on sale these cards in the gray market.
The cards sold for much as 25 cents which doesn’t seem much. However, with enough sales, it possibly will amount to a considerable amount and it also earns the dev their share.
To avoid these types of incidents, Valve introduced “Confidence Metric” a new thing to combat the trading card system mistreatment.
The company has a dedicated team which is monitoring reports and spotting bogus games. Valve has also issued a statement saying that “These accounts were generating a lot of reports and frustration from customers and other developers. It turns out that the bad actors were all the same person operating under different accounts.”
