For the past few weeks intense talks have been going on between US and the Taliban over the presence of US in Afghanistan and the retaliatory bombings in Afghan cities by the Taliban that has resulted in countless civilian lives lost. Taliban and the US both seemed to be aiming these talks with a Personal vendetta. Taliban is adamant on its position of taking over Afghanistan by force and would not let anyone intervene. Since the Afghan government would, in no capacity let that happen and the US aiding them there seems to be no way out on the matter.
But it seems like US was only in Afghanistan in order to keep them pressurized to prevent any future attacks on the US. There was no intention to allow a peaceful transition for both the Afghan government and the Taliban to prevent further bombings and to allow for peaceful resolve to the matter. As of right now, US would be placing only 8600 troops in Afghanistan and the rest would be sent back. However, Trump has been quick to respond to people seeing this as a weakness, with him stating that US will always keep a presence in Afghanistan
