The current diplomatic talks between US-Taliban are not going according to plan as Taliban remain adamant that they would seize power by force and keep fighting the Afghan Government until they get the country under their control.
US is not keen on withdrawing from Afghanistan as Taliban keep threatening the peace of the region. US agreed to withdraw troops from Afghanistan but that didn’t convince Taliban on holding talks with the Afghan Government and settle the matter by talks rather than by force. It was initially agreed that all foreign forces in Afghanistan would return and the matter would be resolved through Intra-Afghan talks. However, that has not been the case with Taliban wanting US to withdraw their vital air support for the Afghan Government, and US not agreeing to in any case with the threat of Talibans taking over by force still very strong.
Taliban had the following primary demand
The Americans will not come to the assistance of the Afghan government and its forces in their fight against us.

US representative, Zalmay Khalilzad was quick to respond to such a demand
Let me be clear: We will defend Afghan forces now and after any agreement with the Talibs, All sides agree Afghanistan’s future will be determined in intra-Afghan negotiations
The civilian lives are the ones which are at the greatest risk with number of casualties rising to 3812 in the first half of 2019 due to continuous Taliban military actions. US has tried to sway the Taliban towards a peaceful ceasefire to prevent any more losses of civilians but Taliban have been ignorant to any peace talks and have been continuously threatening the Afghan Government in more ways than one. There seems to be no outcome other than more military rounds between the forces as the Taliban look to takeover control of the country through brutality.
