Do you want your pizza to be delivered by Uber drones? Well, Uber is planning on to expand its product line as the company wants to bring its meal-delivery service through drones and integrate this technology into UberEats, as early as 2021.
Earlier this year, the ride-hailing company revealed that it’s eager to use drone technology for its UberEats meal-delivery service. However, recently a job ad spotted by the Wall Street Journal suggests that Uber has set a target date for its first drone delivery.
According to the recent ad, Uber required manpower for the position that titled “flight standards and training” and it is based in Uber’s home city of San Francisco.
When the Journal made an inquiry about the statement, Uber took down the record from its website; however it was present on their LinkedIn’s site. In this regard a statement came from an unnamed spokesperson at Uber who said that just posting about the topic “does not fully reflect our program, which is still in its very early days.”
The primary focus of the role is to expand “standards, procedures, and training while reducing operational risk for all UberExpress flight operations.” Not to know, Uber Express is the name used for the company’s internal drone-based plan.
The person who will get this job has required to “enabling safe, legal, efficient, and scalable flight operations to deliver flights in 2019 and commercial operations in multiple markets by 2021.”
In order to achieve this goal, initially Uber will have to build a drone platform and off course the machine itself which should be capable of carrying out the deliveries for customers.

Apart from device and platform, the difficult matter would be to overcome regulatory hurdles. There are many companies, who want to use drone technology to drop orders at people’s doors like web giant Amazon is also one of those companies.
However, the Federal Aviation Administration has proceeded with severe caution so far when it comes to commercial drone operations. So, agency would have to be reassured about security and safety when allowing licenses for such platforms.
In May 2018, Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s CEO revealed Uber’s plans to utilize drones as part of UberEats program.
Currently, Uber uses drivers and cyclists to fulfill its orders just like its competitors. However, it would be great challenge to use autonomous delivery drones, which are talented to pass straight over gridlocked city streets and buildings.
But, if it happens, it will give its own service the edge by offering a speedier alternative in the highly competitive meal delivery service sector.
