A true story of nine years old boy who suffers from polio ”Saawan” has been selected as the Pakistan’s submission to the ‘ Foreign Language Film Award ’ category at the 90th Academy Awards that are scheduled to take place on March 4, 2018.
In this drama film namely “Saawan” a boy starts a dangerous journey back to his home in the main city because he is Shunned by the society and his father.
The drama film belongs to a boy from Balochistan valley and is directed by Farhan Alam. Mashood Qadri is the writer and the producer of the drama. Saleem Mairaj, Syed Karam Hussain, Arif Bahalim, Najiba Faiz and Imran Aslam are the leading stars of the film.
According to Mashood Qadri, the story is based upon a voyage for survival that carries a message of hope.
The story makes people learn that the mind is mightier than might. The story is an attempt to teach the people that disability is not a liability and inspiration of the disabled people through this story is also aimed.
Removal of misconceptions surrounding polio vaccination is also aimed at this film with a hope for eradication of the Polio in Pakistan.
Water crisis, child trafficking and the bravery of women are also highlighted in this drama film.
This heart touching story that makes believe in possibilities won ‘Best Foreign Language Feature Film’ award at the Madrid International Film Festival this year. The ‘Best Film’ and ‘Best Soundtrack Award’ at Salento International Film Festival in Italy also went to this film earlier this month.
Mandviwalla Entertainment’s Nadeem Mandviwalla while talking about Saawan’s selection for the Oscars claims to be pleased to see really good cinematic features this year. He admits that the film highlights some grave issues.
