Transparency International releases its annual Corruption Perception Index (CPI) assessment report. International watchdog categorized 180 countries and gave them points out of 100. Pakistan retains its 117th position out of 180 countries, however the country improved one point and scored 33 out of 100 – one point better than the previous year.
Transparency International formulated Pakistan’s ranking on the basis of receiving feedback from 8 agencies. The outlook, however, is not promising for Pakistan, the government who is focusing on curbing the menace of corruption in Pakistan. Half of Pakistan’s opposition leaders are currently in jail, remaining are facing multiple corruption cases.

NAB, the anti-graft watchdog in Pakistan is pursuing an aggressive approach of going after politicians and bureaucrats. The independent agencies in 2019 observed Pakistan more corrupt than 2018. The report surprised many after ruling government’s campaign against corruption.
Earlier, the report showed Pakistan’s score in 2018 32 out of 100, which is now 33. The development on other words can be considered as negative – a feat that Pakistan never achieved – also, the ranking is showing a worrisome situation for the government as well.
