The Pixel 4 does not include support for 4K/60fps support for the case of video recording and this came as a surprise to many as we now see the option in many flagship phones these days.
The latest reports suggest that the Pixel 4 was supposed to offer the support for 4K/60fps, however, it was pulled right before the launch. What this means is that the flagship device from Google maxes out at 4K/30fps while the iPhone series, the latest flagship Galaxy phones as well as LG’s flagship devices and indeed Xiaomi’s top-end phones all come with the support of 4K/60FPS recording quality.
So why exactly did Google take the decision?
Initially, it was stated by Google that storage concerns was the major reason as to why the Pixel 4 does not come with the feature. In particular, the company claimed that the support for 4K/60fps tends to eat up 500MB of storage each and every minute.

When we consider the fact that the base Pixel 4 model only features with 64 gigs of internal storage which is however expandable, there is the case that 4K/60fps videos recording would chew up space. However, a case can also be made for the use of the HEVC codec – which has the tendency to greatly reduce video file sizes while at the same time maintaining good quality.
Another possible consideration which might have led Google to go the opposite way could have been the factor of increased drainage of battery life as well as an increase in the temperature of the device. The fact that the Pixel 4 already features with a smaller battery in comparison to the Pixel 3 means that battery life could have played a very important role in Google going down the route of 4K/30fps.
Then again, it is also possible that Google just wasn’t happy with the performance of the 4K/60fps mode. In any case however, the users will of course have to settle with what’s there.
