The hardware business of Google is second to none, with the Pixel devices being the best example of what Google has to offer in terms of hardware. Indeed the company’s flagship lineup of phones comes with the company’s very own software magic, which goes a long way into helping Google to make up for their lack of eye-watering specifications or their middling feature sets.
Recently enough, Google took upon the decision to have a glance over at the mid-range proceedings in the smartphone market – which have occupied manufacturers all over the globe now more than ever. Google announced its mid-range smartphone lineup after the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL made their way into the market last year. The goal for Google – with its mid-range lineup of the phones – was to provide an experience which goes on to replicate what the flagship Pixel smartphones have given the users – featuring with the same camera prowess as of the Pixel 3, and even though the specs that the mid-ranger devices brought along with them were of no real comparison to some of the other mid-range options available throughout the market, specs were never really the priority for Google, were they?

Though many were skeptical as to how the mid-range smartphones from Google would perform, especially in light of how average the specifications were – it seems that Google’s decision to dip its toes into the mid-range smartphone market has proven to be a good one. In accordance with Alphabets latest A2 2019 earnings call, the overall Pixel unit sales in Q2 grew more than twice year-on-year after the launch of the Pixel 3a range of devices all the way back in May.
Just for the sake of comparison – in Google’s Q- earnings call, the company acknowledged that it had trouble in selling the Pixel 3 range of devices, so it’s a safe bet to say that Google has enjoyed much more success in selling its flagship counterpart.
While the company has been a bit stubborn over how it approaches its flagship devices, both the upcoming Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL are set to be great departures from what Google is currently doing with its Pixel 3 range. If Google plays its cards right and other factors put in place go on to help the company in achieving what it wants, then we might just be looking at a potential new hit from – will it be – only time will tell.
