Crossing the societal barriers, a mosque in India made history by hosting a Hindu wedding setting an ecstatic wave of harmony that religions are not there to divide, but to unite. The Cheravally Muslim Jamaat, a 100 year old Mosque, in an exemplary move, decided to help a family, when mother of the bride was unable to collect the money needed for the ceremony, the mosque committee came forward to help.
Later, people saw an unprecedented example of harmony, when mosque changed into the venue for the traditional Hindu wedding ceremony.
A mandap was set up in the premises of the mosque and wedding mantras were recited as well, the couple Sarath Sasidharan and Anju Ashokan vowed to become forever life partners after the rituals.
The mosque management committee leaders with many other Muslim men and women attended the ceremony. After the wedding, the Mosque management hosted a dinner for the newlywed couple’s guests, including politicians from Kerala.

Najumudeen Alummoottil, the secretary of the mosque’s management committee, while talking to media said, “Today, this sets an example for the world. A Hindu couple got married at mosque premises. About 1400 years ago Muhammad Nabi had opened the doors of the mosque to Christians and Judah,”
The bride was over the moon after tying the knot, she said, “my younger brother and his friend were the reason this to happen. It has been developed through their discussions. We are very happy,”
P Nazir, who is the mosque committee member extended turned up with 10 gold sovereigns and Rs 2 lakh to bear the marriage expenses. Before the wedding, the mosque gates were decorated in traditional Hindu wedding style.
The pictures, with Hindu pundits and mosque clerics hand in hand went viral on social media, the news spread like wildfire across Indian regions. This was a unique show solidarity of Muslims with Hindus in the backdrop of CAA and NRC issues in India, which is keeping sensible lot of India on their toes, and protests are still going strong across India. This example shows the huge barrier between bigotry of government and common people who to live with harmony.
