Huawei P30 range made its way into the smartphone market recently, and amongst the phones contain a budget variant called ‘the Huawei P30 Lite’ alongside the more expensive two variants going by the names of the Huawei P30 Pro and the P30.
If the name hasn’t made it obvious enough, the Huawei P30 Lite does not actually retain the flagship features that the high end P30 phones provide users with, however, the phone still goes on to offer a high-end striking design along with a quite adept camera setup.
As far as similarities with its bigger siblings go, the P30 Lite does not have too much in common both the P30 and the P30 Pro, except for the colorful designs and the teardrop notch.The phone features with Huawei’s mid-range Kirin 710 chipset and contains a rather modest triple camera setup – which in its price segment is still quite impressive.
Design
The P30 Lite comes with a curved 3D glass on the back which makes it quite comfortable for users in hand; however, with regards to the glossy side of things, many don’t seem to be big fans. The phone also has a cheap looking frame around the body. The back of the phone features with a camera bump which houses the three sensors present on the phone, while the back is also home to the fingerprint sensor.
Bottom
On the right of the phone is present the volume rockers as well as the power button. They have a plasticfeel attached to them, reminding the users of the budget origins the phone comes from. On the bottom of the phone comes the USB-C port along with a speaker that’s not too unique – forgiven however when you consider the fact that the phone comes with a headphone jack to satisfy the music needs of users.

Display
On the front of the device you’ll find a large 6.15-inch Full-HD LCD display which goes on to occupy more than 84 percent of the device. On the sides, the bezels are quite thin, while the corners of the device seem to be quite elegantly rounded off, however, there is indeed a bit of a chin right at the bottom.
The display of the device has received great praise, and rightfully so, as the phone features with a stunning display with ample brightness, crisp quality and great color reproduction. And while it is true that the IPS LCD panel found on the P30 Lite might not give you the flagship-esquefeels that the punchy QHD displays give, or indeed a similar experience to what Samsung is offering with its AMOLED displays on its budget Galaxy A range – the phone is still well above others when you consider most of the smartphones in a similar price bracket.
The camera
Like I’ve mentioned above, the device features with a triple camera setup on the back, consisting of a 24MP main sensor, 2MP depth sensor along with an 8MP ultra-wide camera.

Front Camera
Many would argue that the standout sensor on the device happens to be on the front : a 32MP selfie camera snapper. The camera has the capabilities to capture a good amount of details, while the on board AI beautification makes way for quick selfies. Another one of the fine features that the front camera provides you with is the fact that you would be able to blur out background by enabling bokeh through the camera app, or indeed add in depth after the photo has actually and already been taken.

The EMUI 9 also hands in a touch of AI effects along with image recognition – however, more often than not users find such photos looking a tad over-processed and thus : unnatural. Performance and battery life
Like I mentioned above, the phone features with the Kirin 710 chipset, and this is where users recognize the true budget nature of the phone. And while one may argue that the processor is able to handle your average day to day usage, playing heavy games and jumping back and forth in between of apps may pose an issue.
The battery present on the phone isn’t too impressive either coming in at 3340mAh, however, when you consider the modest blend of internals within the phone, the battery won’t be much of a bother to users. On moderate usage, the phone can quite easily last you a day – with this usage including the likes of streaming videos and scrolling through social media – whatever floats your boat when you think of average day to day usage.
Final comments
Coming in at a mid range price, one wouldn’t have imagined the phone to offer any more internal wise than it already is, however, Huawei does round up the phone by offering a great and polished design, a more than decent display, and a very impressive camera setup.
Users will find themselves handicapped with regards to performance and gaming on the phone but carrying out casual tasks won’t be of any nuisance – with the phone also having enough juice to run a whole day battery wise, and coupled with a fast charger, it will also be capable of getting its juice back up relatively quickly.
All in all, the phone seems like a worthy opponent to any other mid-range phone, and with a rather interesting mix of specs and hardware – it would pose a headache to anyone in the market who is cash strapped and on the look for a decent enough smartphone.
