On Wednesday, Snap claimed that it has stopped with all the promotion of the Snapchat account of President Donald Trump after it was determined by the platform that his public comments off the site could incite violence – becoming the latest social media entity to take a stance against the actions of the president.
Snap said that while Trump’s account will in fact remain intact, it would not actually be promoted any longer on its Discover home page for news as well as stories. Previously, the account was one of those that regularly featured on Discover.
While everyone is divided and has their own opinions, much like Snap, Twitter too took a stance against the President as it labeled several of his tweets as giving misinformation on voting and glorifying violence. Of course Facebook took on a completely different perspective as it has not even touched the posts laid down by the President, arguing the case of free speech.

Snap said that it took upon the decision to stop the highlighting of Trump’s account as a direct result of the tweets in which he threatened to send “vicious dogs” and “ominous weapons” into the protests that can be seen nationwide as a consequence of the killing of George Floyd.
After the comments made by Trump, Evan Speigel, who happens to be the chief executive of Snap addressed a message to his employees and said : “We will make it clear with out actions that there is no gray area when it comes to racism, violence and injustice. We simply cannot promote accounts in America that are linked to people who incite racial violence, whether they do so on or off our platform.”
This will seemingly be a blow as we move towards the next elections. Indeed Trump had accumulated quite a bit of popularity as a result of regularly being promoted in the Discover feature and since people were spending more and more time on Snapchat as well as other social media platforms due to the coronavirus, this will be a blow to Trump’s popularity across the region!
