Saudi MCIT seeks ways to boost ICT skills in Saudia. In a bid to provide training for 1500 Saudies alongside creating jobs for them to support the goals of Vision 2030 & the National Transformation Plan 2020, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has signed an MoU with Huawei.
The MoU is also aimed at developing ICT skills and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in the Kingdom to include technologies like Artificial Intelligence & Internet of Things (IoT) designed to support Saudi entrepreneurship.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology, HE Eng Abdullah Amer Al-Swaha, attended the signing ceremony while being accompanied by Deputy Minister for Technology and Digital Capacities, Dr. Ahmed bin Hamdan Al-Theneyan, Mr. Mark Xue, Vice President of Huawei, Paul Scanlan, CTO, Huawei Technologies & Dennis Zhang, CEO, Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia.
Within the next two years, from now, 1,500 Saudis will undergo training from Huawei in skills that are related to ICT across the board.
Full time employment for every trainee is due with two of the programs namely the Future Leaders Program and the National Industrial Training Institute Program. Huawei will also offer awareness programs to be delivered through VSIC visits and its innovative & effective ICT Skill Competition, which should reach an additional 5,000 students and trainees as well.

The further joint developments to Huawei’s existing Customer Solution Integration & Innovation Experience Centre (CSIC) facility will focus particularly on the development and utilization of AI and IoT technologies in enabling the entrepreneurs of Saudi Arabia. These investments will let entrepreneurs use these platforms to further pursue innovation, and train themselves as well as their organizations for success as the digital transformation becomes more comprehensive.
The MoU follows several of CSR initiatives launched by Huawei in the Kingdom. Huawei brought its Future training program to Saudi Arabia 3 years ago in collaboration with the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), to develop the next generation of ICT talent.
In 2017 Huawei again collaborated TVTC & CITC to launch the ICT Skill Competition in Saudi Arabia and brought together more than 10,285 students from 121 educational institutions across the Middle East, 13 of those students earned a once in a lifetime trip to Huawei’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China. While 6 students from Saudi Arabia won Excellence Prizes at the event, and several Saudi institutions were awarded.
In Riyadh, Huawei’s training centre has graduated over 4,000 engineers since its establishment in 2006, and others have taken part in educational initiatives at the Huawei Academy with the support of the Saudi Technical & Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) as well as Yanbu Royal Commission.
