The Galaxy Fold was dubbed to be a real talking point of 2019 with it being a first of its kind mass produced foldable display and the utility that it brought along. While other manufacturers did show their prototypes none of them felt as complete as the Galaxy Fold and with Samsung promising an April release date for the device it got everyone excited. However, what followed was probably a result of Samsung rushing the device too much and ending up on the ground. All the talking that is now happening is how fragile the Fold turned out to be. This saga just took a strange turn now!
Samsung requested famous YouTuber to pull the video of the tear down the Galaxy Fold. It seems like Samsung now feels guilty of releasing the Fold just too soon and doesn’t want the world to see the flaws in the mechanism that has led to several display issues and numerous other problems. IFIXIT issued a statement on the matter:
We were provided our Galaxy Fold unit by a trusted partner. Samsung has requested, through that partner, that iFixit remove its teardown. We are under no obligation to remove our analysis, legal or otherwise. But out of respect for this partner, whom we consider an ally in making devices more repairable, we are choosing to withdraw our story until we can purchase a Galaxy Fold at retail.
the teardown served as excellent evidence that there were obvious and potentially avoidable mistakes in the Fold’s design, namely that it was too easy for dirt and grit to get inside it. That was our view of the teardown, though we were also impressed at how sturdy the hinge was.
Whatever Samsung’s reasoning, it’s not a great look to issue a takedown request in anysituation. Why a company that’s already straining to quell the bad press around this device would invite more of it by requesting a takedown is baffling.
