Samsung Galaxy S10 phones have official support for Netflix HDR10 video

While the Samsung Galaxy phones aren’t actually available to the general public just yet, Netflix has already made its move by quietly adding HDR10 certification to all three of the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10 Plus.

This is obviously great news for all, especially for those users who would want to take full advantage of the dynamic OLED displays that the phones have been blessed with, and these are actually the first smartphones displays to go on and support HDR10+. On one hand, we have the HDR10, which possesses the capabilities to set metadata channel, while on the other hand, we have HDR10+ whichgoes on to feature a metadata channel which has the ability to feature with a variable midpoint of the dynamic range. The metadata then actually proceeds to be an aid in the adjustment of the brightness levels on a scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame basis in a more accurate manner.

While a great feature no doubt, there isn’t any concreteness on the amount of the Netflix content which goes on to support the HDR10+ standard. However, there should be more content of such sorts in the future, courtesy of 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. Having an agreement over to support the HDR10+ standard.

One thing to note is that if you want to play HDR10 content on your Galaxy S10, then you’ll have to make sure that the latest version of Netflix is installed on your phone, as the HDR10 content on Netflix won’t actually play on an older version of the app.

Netflix has also done the courtesy of adding HD certification to the Galaxy S10 series, and the not-so flagship Galaxy M-series phones – with the M-series including the likes of the Galaxy M10, M20 and finally the Galaxy M30. Netflix has also added HD certification for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675, 710, as well as the Snapdragon 855 processors.
