The Samsung DeX Pad, a dock that connects S8, S8+, S8 Active, Note8, S9 and S9+ to a monitor for a desktop computing and entertainment experience is not much of a looker – a piece of plain black plastic slab set flat on a desk.
Unlike its predecessor the DeX Station, which tilts the phone up at an angle just like a smartphone stand, when this lightweight and easy to carry around DeX Pad is docked, your smartphone lies flat on it.
Thus, it is a tad inconvenient in case you desire to unlock your smartphone and you will have to move your head above your smartphone to unlock it if you’re using iris-recognition.
The user will have to lift the smartphone up to reach the rear fingerprint sensor to unlock it. However the easiest way is to use PIN code.
What are on top of DeX Pad? A USB-C connector to dock your smartphone, alongside a row of ventilations vents for cooling your smartphone.
When its back is concerned, an HDMI port for connecting to an external display is available. On the back, you will also find a USB-C port for charging and 2 USB 2.0 ports for connecting to peripherals.

Alongside a wall charger, it has an HDMI cable, a USB-C cable. However you will have to use your own mouse and keyboard.
The display of your smartphone becomes a trackpad for the DeX desktop once it’s docked. It allows you to use a virtual keyboard on it, though virtual keyboard lacks precision and is too small to type on.
Use a mouse and keyboard with the DeX Pad for best experience. The DeX Pad is a seamless plug-and-play experience. Connect it to a monitor, and get a Windows-like desktop.
Supporting multitasking DeX Pad lets you display multiple apps on the same screen. The smartphone can get quite hot during its use. However there is no need to wonder as it comes with a fan.
