Qualcomm has introduced this week a new mobile SoC lineup called the Snapdragon 700 Mobile Platform designed to bring flagship-grade features to a wider audience. Snapdragon 710 is the first processor under this series and offers a significant bump up from the Snapdragon 660. It also carries a slew of high-end modules that are usually found in the company’s 800-tier chips.
Smartphones after getting powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform will become available sometime in second quarter of this year and will reside around the price segment of $500.
The new Snapdragon 710, is aimed at making it easier for phone makers to add AI-powered features on their phones. This new chip comes with a dedicated AI engine with an ability to render machine learning processes at twice the rate as the Snapdragon 660.
Therefore abilities like depth-of-field effects, scene detection should theoretically function more faster on phones having Snapdragon 710.
When we talk about performance, the new Kryo 360 architecture is no slouch. When compared to the Snapdragon 660, the 710 delivers a 20 per cent uplift in general.
Battery life is another key highlight of the Snapdragon 710 and the chip features a Kryo 360 CPU and 6 efficiency cores (upto 1.7GHz) in addition 2 performance ones (upto 2.2GHz) which will lead to 40 per cent reduction in power consumption while playing games and 20 per cent for streaming video, according to Qualcomm.

The new chipset consumes lesser power while handling features such as 4K or slow-mo video recording, stabilization, and many more. The bundled Spectra 250 Image Signal Processor is being said to be compatible with up to 32-megapixel single sensor or 20-megapixel in case there are 2 of them.
The company says that the ISP can curb noise levels in snaps too & supports active depth sensing for portrait shots.
The new chipset called Snapdragon 710 is betting big on its multimedia capabilities. For beginners, it can play 4K HDR clips & the Adreno 616 GPU can render graphics up to 35 per cent more efficiently than the Snapdragon 660.
As charging is concerned, the new chipset does support the Qualcomm‘s Quick Charge 4+ technology which can top up a phone to 50 per cent within only 15 minutes.
The Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform does also feature the upgraded X15 LTE Modem which is can allow phones to latch onto a signal even in weak regions.
Xiaomi is expected to be the first to use this new Snapdragon in its mobiles.
