Qualcomm and Apple are reportedly working together to bring an In-display Fingerprint Scanner to the upcoming iPhone

So two major US-oriented mobile phone industry companies are looking to join hands together to bring the ultrasonic In-display Fingerprint Scanner to the iPhone. In contrast many smartphone manufacturers have already successfully implemented the new in-screen fingerprint scanners, whichis the new innovative feature that phones carry with them. The Korean giants got the bragging rights after they introduced the world’s first smartphone which featured the all new ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner with improved accuracy. On the other end,Apple is still in line to implementthe new technology on there iPhone and it is expected that product development is underway to bring this new technology to the upcoming iPhone device.

To support that statement, it is revealed that Apple and Qualcomm have decided to work together in order to introduce the new in-screen fingerprint sensor to the new iPhone. Technology quite similar to Galaxy S10’s ultrasonic sensor is being considered and work is underway. As like always, Apple is working tirelessly with the Qualcomm to bring the best quality fingerprint scanner for there premium device, the iPhone.

Moreover, it should be noted that the Ultrasonic in-screen sensors are considered to be faster, safer and work accurately even in wet conditions. When comparedto the traditional  Optical sensors, these new sensors can unlock the device in 250 ms and carries a 1% maximum rejection rate. Unlike the 300 microns sensing on traditional sensors, Qualcomm’s second generation sensors can efficiently work up to 800 microns which in itself is a great achievement from the company.

However, with all great things comethere flaws, recent advancements showed that the new sensors failed on several occasions where the user tried unlocking the device using a printed 3D fingerprint model. The new sensoris quite vulnerable to unauthenticated unlocking methods for now. If Apple can overcome this flaw and produce a scanner without any issue, they might gain on their competitors easily. In additionto that, the increased demand for a better viewing experience is leading to thinner bezels and in-screen fingerprint sensors. According to a IHS Market research report, the in-display fingerprint smartphone market will hit 100 million within this year.
