Pakistan has been surprisingly active in regards to its pursuit of 5G when compared to pursuing the past generation of wireless networks which was disappointingly delayed to the extent that it became embarrassing. However, times have changed and now that 5G is here, PTA is ready to get a hands on experience of the technology. But this statement was misunderstood by the media, who mistook it for PTA giving out licenses in November of this year. 5G Applications received.
Its only logical to think that such a quick selling of licenses of 5G is not possible with the front runners of 5g still not able to make it accessible to the extent that they want to, Pakistan, who would be waiting for Korea, most probably Huawei to get the 5G network up and running so that they can get in line for this technology. PTA issued a statement to fix these misleading news:
Must Read: Supreme court’s Mohamand and Daimer Bhasha Dams current Status
Recent news item published in the media erroneously mention that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority will issue 5G licenses during the month of November this year. It is clarified that PTA only issued an advertisement inviting applications for testing and development of the 5th Generation wireless networks in the country. The framework and other details are available on PTA website ( https://pta.gov.pk)
It is pertinent to mention that PTA issued the advertisement on 18th of July, 2019 under the caption of “Public Notice” in which applications were sought from PTA licenses, R&D organisations, academic institutions, equipment and /or Device manufacturers and vendors for 5G wireless networks trials.
This clarifies the situation and to think that with PTA currently negotiating with telecom operators on 4G licenses would be dealing with 5G licenses at the same time is what I would like to call immaturity on the part of Pakistani media which prefers to rush news rather than making proper sense of it.
