Popular Google Search trends of the year 2018

Every day, we type dozens of queries and type the stuff that we may or may not have wondered about into the world’s most popular search engine – Google. And to Google’s credit, in order to satisfy our curiosity, the search engine every year give a bit of a peek into the vault of information that the company has at its disposal.

The search trend following the year of 2018 can be divided into a bunch of different categories, and also can be picked up depending upon which side of the globe that you happen to be interested in. However, all together, the number one search term of this year was the World Cup. This was followed up by two musicians who happened to taste death this year, in Avicii and Mac Miller. Stan Lee, who was the creator of Marvel and the inspiration to the childhoods of many also happened to pass away this, as he became the fourth most searched term on Google. As far as news events worldwide go though, without the inclusion of the World Cup, the top search terms revolved around the likes of Hurricane Florence, the Mega Millions result, the Royal wedding, as well as the election results. The top people searched of the year was certainly in line with the royal wedding, as this centered around the new duchess, Meghan Markle.

If you want to look within the search trends specific to the States, the crown goes to Bitcoin. The next queries on top of that particular category featured more of a political taste, as these ranged from the likes of racketeering, to the likes of DACA, and the government shutdown.

And since I’ve touched the subject of politics, the top five politics that were searched on Google were Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, Texas senate candidate Beto O’Rourke, Senator Ted Cruz, Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, along with the newly elected New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
