PM Khan on Tuesday, approved the purchase of 12 new airplanes to be added to the fleet of PIA.
PIA has been without a doubt, having quite a year with huge losses now turning into profits as the management is cleaned up and as it moves towards revamping itself, it would be a great way for it to get back on its feet with the addition of some new airplanes to allow for more frequent travels and adding more countries to the list where PIA operates.

The decision was made during a meeting of the aviation division. Federal Minister for Aviation Chaudhry Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Dr Hafeez Shaikh, Aviation Secretary Shahrukh Nusrat and PIA chief executive Air Marshal Arshad Malik attended the meeting. During the meeting, PM Khan was briefed on the proposed business plan of PIA for the next few years and how it aims to add the planes to its fleet with an overall improvement in ride quality, and better customer services. PM also stressed on the importance of an increase in travel facilities. As far as the business plan was concerned, going into the details, it mentioned the kind of aircrafts required and the process through which they are to be purchased. Fortunately, PM gave the go ahead signal and now the plan is underway.
According to Air Marshal Malik, overall 12 new planes would be added with an initial 4 added by 2020. The PIA chief explained that the planes would be medium sized and are expected to be used for internal travel routes only. This would bring up the total size of the fleet of PIA to 45 which is a huge achievement considering how much deeply it was, in troubled waters recently.
