PEOPLE GETTING SCAMMED BECAUSE OF FAKE FBR EMAILS: FBR WARNS

Phishing is nothing new. And for those who don’t know what phishing is, here’s a gist of it. So basically, scammers create very legit looking fake emails belonging to organisations which are

indeed legitimate but since the creator is not the organization themselves, it is a scam. That email usually has a link attached which leads you to a website where you enter your personal info like credit card details and other details that could be used against you and that’s exactly what the purpose of phishing is. The scammers are able to use the data you put onto fake websites for their own purposes.

That’s exactly whats happening with FBR these days. The Federal Board of Revenue was very strict about the accountability of all assets of people ever since the new government came into power. This caused a huge wave of concern among people, an urdu proverb that fits the situation perfectly, “chorkidarrimeitinka”. The translation is something like this: the guilty are the ones who get worried. What followed was a sort of panic among people and thereafter there have been quite a lot of additions to the national database of assets declared. However, here is where the scam comes in.

FBR has warned against people receiving certain emails which require you to input your data to apparently declare your asset but that infact is a scam and is being used by the scammers. FBR has warned everyone that it is not sending any such emails and that people should stay clear of inputting any data online through links in emails. Worried people have been clicking on such emails and getting themselves scammed so its for everyone to never click on random links sent through emails.
