On August 3rd, 2016 the UK government signed its first blockchain platform-as-a-service agreement. Interestingly, the distributed ledger technology (DLT) is currently available under the G-Cloud framework agreement through Government Digital Services’ Digital Marketplace for government organizations that are interested in experimenting with it.
Georgia government converted its land registry to blockchain on Dec 3rd 2017. The blockchain-powered land register of Georgia has already cut their costs by over 90% and they are solving all land related issues efficiently. Their blockchain land register has already seen over 300,000 entries and it handles registration of new title deeds, mortgages, rentals and the sales/transfer of title deeds.
If you were thinking cryptocurrency was something that the governments of our world will never adopt, Dubai announced its own cryptocurrency named emCash. As for the advantages of this cryptocurrency for Dubai and its residents, consider what Dubai Economy Deputy Director General Ali Ibrahim has to say about it: “A digital currency has varied advantages – faster processing, improved delivery time, less complexity and cost, to name a few. It will change the way people live and do business in Dubai, and mark a giant leap for the city in harnessing game-changing innovations to improve ease of business and quality of life. We are delighted to have Object Tech as our partner in this initiative and the Dubai Economy Accelerators program. With all these countries effectively using the blockchain technology to their advantage, do you think such a system will help people of Pakistan? For sure it will and it also aligns perfectly with the vision our present government has for the future of the country. Imagine Pakistan’s real estate registrations on the blockchain. It will practically end the current land registration problems in existing system of Pakistan. All title deeds will be recorded on the blockchain. Everyone will be aware of the true owner of the land and if the land is sold to another person the updated information will be visible and accessible to all. It will ease up the inheritance issues, buy and sale of property, fraudulent land ownerships and many more. Imagine if your educational certification was on the blockchain. It would be easier to tackle to fake degree and certifications. All the certifications and authentication shall be done on blockchain and would be verifiable anytime anywhere by any participant of the blockchain.

But for the government to utilize the blockchain technology to its various administrative sectors, the people of Pakistan need to be aware of it. Sadly, there haven’t been many efforts executed in educating people about the blockchain technology in our country.
