Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, or more popularly known as MBS, arrived in Pakistan on a two-day tour after a recent delay in his arrival. The plane was escorted by Pakistani jets and successfully arrived at the Nur Khan Base in Rawalpindi. MBS was received by PM Imran Khan personally along with a 21-gun salute and a red-carpet welcome. PM Khan himself drove the Crown prince to the Prime Minister Residence, where he was met by an honour guard.
The prince was accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including leading businessmen and cabinet ministers, who shortly after their arrival in Pakistan signed a spate of agreements totalling more than $20bn, according to Prince Mohammed who spoke at a joint press conference later with Khan.
During Prince Mohammed’s visit, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a number of agreements related to diverse sectors including investment, finance, power, renewable energy, sports, security, media and culture. That includes a $10bn refinery and petrochemicals complex in the coastal city of Gwadar. The MoU-signing ceremony was to be a huge investment for the initial phase of the agreements. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have had cordial relations, majority of the time, and this visit is to vouch for that. This would further strengthen ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, with huge economic benefits to Pakistan as huge investments could possibly follow. MBS said during the ceremony,” Saudi Arabia cannot say no to Pakistan, whatever you (Pakistan) want, we will do.”
