Pakistan has just seen the deadliest day since the start of the pandemic back in early January.The virus itself started spreading in Pakistan in early March. Today has been the deadliest in terms of daily new cases as the country saw another 2,255 new positive coronavirus cases in just 24 hours to take the overall number of cases to 34,336.Among the newcases, more than half or to be accurate 1,356 cases have been recorded in Punjab only, whereas Sindh has reported 593 new cases in the last 24 hours. KP, Balochistan and Islamabad added 146, 97 and 43 new coronavirus cases respectively.
Sources have also started that the spike in the cases,especially in Punjab could be because of the back-log of tests in the province as the province reported only 800 cumulative cases in previous two days; indicating that a lot of tests came back yesterday and were reported in accordance with the findings. Number of deaths have reached 31 in 24 hours, of which the 24 patients were on the ventilator which basically tells us that a high fatality rate when patients are on the ventilator.

The total number of hospitalizations have reached 7,876, of whom 195 are in critical condition and another 128 patients have been found to be on the ventilator. The number of hospitalizations have grew sharply as about 1,215 new hospitalizations were recorded in a single day.Itis also expected that the fatalities may spike in the coming days as the number of patients in ICU have also risen over the last few days.A total of 8,812 have so far recovered and discharged from the hospitals.
In addition to just the civilian population it has also been found that a number of 912 health care workers have also tested positive for the coronavirus in Pakistan. Out of these professionals, 486 are found to be doctors, 146 are nurses while 280 individuals are from other health care staff spread in the hospital. 198 health care professionals, who were tested positive, were performing duties in Critical Care facilities while 714 health care professionals, who tested positive, were performing there obligations elsewhere.
Finally,among the 912 positive cases the only health care workers who are in the ICU or on ventilator, while remaining 699 health care workers are in stable condition. Another 198 health care professionals have tested negative for the virus and are cleared of the infection.A total of 11 health care workers died of the disease in the country.
