Since OnePlus announced that the company is looking forward to the release of a 5G enabled phone in 2019, not much has been said ever since. However, while there wasn’t much to know about the company’s alleged phone before, there is now, after a spokesperson from OnePlus had taken the opportunity to speak with CNET about the company’s upcoming 5G smartphone
OnePlus made some comments on the alleged phone, and revealed that the phone will indeed become available in the early parts of next year. Reports surfacing earlier with regards to 5G phones in general stated that the phones will become of avail to the market in the earlier parts of next year, so it does kinda make a whole lot of sense for OnePlus to release a phone in the earlier parts of next year. And as far as making the concrete announcement of the phone goes, perhaps the company is waiting for the 2019 Mobile World Congress, which is supposed to take place in February, to do so.
Moreover, and certainly of great intrigue to everyone looking forward to the device, OnePlus has also gone on to reveal that the upcoming 5G device won’t actually be the eventual successor to the OnePlus 6T, and also, while at that went on to reveal that the successor to the OnePlus 6T will not feature 5G. To add to this, OnePlus stated that the 5G smartphone will kick off a new line of smartphones for the company, one which will look to compliment its portfolio of devices.

So what’s the point of it then, why not just have 5G enabled into the OnePlus 7? Well, to sum it all up, one of the main reason as to why OnePlus probably doesn’t want to add 5G into its next flagship device is down to the price factor. OnePlus has been known to be a ‘flagship killer’ because it continues to supply extremely impressive phones, in an extremely impressive price tag, when compared to the competition. Hence, a separate line of 5G smartphones would allow OnePlus to maintain its affordable status quo.
While we do know that OnePlus is planning on to release the phone in the early part of next year, do know that it infact will be a 5G phone, and do also know that it won’t be the OnePlus 7, what we don’t know is what the device is set to be called. So perhaps, while it would seem like OnePlus has everything figured out, they just might not, as the naming department is still something the Chinese brand needs to figure out.
