Mixed martial arts and UFC superstar Conor McGregor has just announced his retirement on Sunday.The star has been a two-division Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) World Champion and has said on record that his fighting days are now over after he made a post on Twitter, posted on his verified account, alongside a picture with his mother, Margaret.
He says “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours.”It is no hidden fact that the Irish fighter has been one of the most controversial characters of his time, dubbed “The Notorious”, previously announced his retirement from the sport in March last year after being a tough beating was endured by the hands of his arch rival Khabib Nurma gomedov in October of 2018.It should also be noted that the superstar also announced his retirement in April 2016 and he took on Twitter to make the famous tweet, “I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya’s later.”

Only time will tell if he’s serious this time around or whether he shocks everyone again by naming himself in another contending fight. On Sunday he told ESPN: “I’m a bit bored of the game. I’m just not excited about the game. I don’t know if it’s no crowd. I don’t know what it is. There’s just no buzz for me.”All this waiting around. There’s nothing happening. I’m going through opponent options, and there’s nothing really there at the minute. There’s nothing that’s exciting me.” Said the Conor “The Notorious” McGregor.
He made his last appearance in the octagon in January which was made a fter nearly a 15 month-absence, when he knocked out American Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a ruthless 40-second destruction in Las Vegas.The 31-year-old, has been the face of UFC and he is known for controversy,, he made the headlines last year for an attack on an older man in a Dublin bar which was recorded by a bystander. McGregor, has by far been the most popular fighter in MMA history and he currently maintains an outstanding record of 22-4 and was the first UFC fighter to hold two championship belts at one time.
He achieved that feat in 2016 when he stopped Eddie Alvarez in a lightweight title fight, adding it to his featherweight title.That triumph was followed by a loss to boxing great Floyd Mayweather in a cross-combat superfight in 2017, his loss to Nurmagomedov, announcements of retirements and returns to fighting.
The president of UFC Dana White paid personally paid a tribute to McGregor after the conclusion of UFC 250 in Las Vegas early Sunday morning.”If Conor McGregor feels he wants to retire, you know my feelings about retirement, you should absolutely do it,I love Conor. There’s a handful of people that have made this really fun for me, and he’s one of them.” He stated in a press conference held yesterday.
