As if it wasn’t already easy to order food online, Facebook has now introduced a method in which users can simply order food within the app, without having to leave the app and going to an external website of the restaurant to order food. In the main navigation, available to both web and mobile app, a new ‘order food’ option is rolling out to selected users.
On the desktop, a colorful hamburger icon is showcased, while there is a blue and white icon, present on the mobile app. Users can now simply food pickup and delivery orders, using delivery.com, and slice. The entire process, from the order to the checkout, takes place when you use this menu option.
This new feature is an expansion of the deal Facebook previously made with online ordering services, Slice, and Delivery however at that time, Facebook said that it would allow users to place orders with supported restaurants, via their own Facebook pages, through a ‘start order’ button.
The ‘order food’ feature in the main works similarly, however, now there is more convenience, as all the supported restaurants are aggregated on one page. On here, you’ll not only find the list of restaurants with featured photos, but you’ll also find a price range, star ratings, and the type of cuisine associated with the restaurant. Not only this but whether delivery and pickup are both available, will also be displayed.
The feature is still rolling out and is relatively new, to begin with, so it is still a little shaky. A good example of this is that the option appears and then disappears for some users, and other times, the problem arises where it says that there aren’t places that can deliver to you.
For users, this is an extremely convenient service, as they won’t have to waste time in visiting other websites, but for Facebook, this shows that it wants users to be within its walls, and not leave the website. Don’t be surprised to see if there are more features like this in the future, where users would not have to necessarily leave Facebook, in order to do something else.
