Samsung has made a habit of offering a brand new chipset as the Galaxy S Series flagship devices come round every year, with the subsequent Note series then adopting either the same processor or a tweaked version. However, this year, it is actually quite possible that the Galaxy Note 20 could get a major chip upgrade.
Indeed the recent reports in regards to this year’s Note series claim that Samsung has achieved completion in the mass production preparations that the company began earlier for the 5nm Exynos processor – which actually, is expected to be the Exynos 992. Moreover, sources say that Samsung is still deciding on whether it should add it to the Galaxy Note 20 series.
Indeed a 5nm design alone would mean that efficiency as well as performance will be subject to improvement when compared with the 7nm Exynos 990 that is on offer in the Galaxy S20 series.

It is said that the Exynos 992 will in fact use Arm’s Cortex-A78 CPU and Mali-G78 GPU. The A78 on a 5nm design refers to 50 percent less power and also has sustained a performance boost as high as 20 percent when compared with the Cortex-A77 CPU on a 7nm design. Meanwhile, Arm claims that the new GPU on a 5nm process has a 25 percent performance improvement over the 7nm Mali-G77 which is there to be seen in the Exynos 990.
To explain the whole ordeal in more simpler terms : this particular shift to a smaller manufacturing processor as well as new CPU and GPU tech would not only refer to a boost in performance, but will also refer to lower power consumption over the Galaxy S20 series.
For now though, considering Samsung’s track record as well as the fact that all the reports that are pouring in are courtesy of unconfirmed reports, it is advisable to take these claims with a pinch of salt subject to official confirmation.
