Not more than dogs and pigs were men in Paris catwalk shows

Not more than dogs and pigs were men in Paris catwalk shows. As the fashion industry reels from a sexual harassment scandal, Paris men’s fashion week started in earnest Wednesday with 2 collections showing what pigs and dogs men can be.

Julien David a French designer  sent out his models. Her models were wearing dog’s heads, from a macho, man-spreading Doberman to an intellectual whippet & splayed poodle in dungarees.

He told AFP of the show that he wanted to study the human species with a bit of distance. It is just a bit of a human laboratory.

Yet as he did put the final touches to his study of male types — with inclusion of a very predatory –looking German Shepherd with his tongue that was hanging out — little he know that the fashion world would he hit by the new allegations at the end of this weekend that 2 star photographers had harassed several models.

Later on,  a show by Flemish master Walter van Beirendonck also presented men as pigs.

Walter van Beirendonck led out his quirky collection with a litter of pig men in an allusion to France’s answer to the #MeToo campaign, #BalancetonPorc — Squeal on your pig.

With quite little piggy ears sticking out of their hoods, and quite strategically-placed holes over erogenous zones, the outfits just took world-weary and dark take on the male condition.

“One-eyed monster… Dream daddy… pig,” you can read one of his skin-coloured, skin-tight tops that were worn with leather breeches & braces.

But David opines his canine imagery was something more about concentrating on the clothes, and his dogs’ heads were about shifting the emphasis away from the models & onto his eclectic style.

He says when people look at the dog they don’t pay attention to his character, and he wanted to have the same feeling. If that guy on the top was real, you would assume many things about him.

Real-life men rarely like to wear overly styled outfits, David says, but “bits of everything — things he has from the past, things he just got, sporty things” that are comfortable too.

So we will love to see how many will be wearing thigh-high Ugg boots the next winter.

Just like Baywatch star Pamela Anderson until she did realise that the boots had been made from sheep, the Belgian is a fan of the Australian sheepskin boots. He says that these boots are so comfortable that it seems to be putting your feet into warm butter.

So he thought to put the whole leg in there. He showed to be very sorry for the animals, but they were very comfortable as per the hip creator, who did not use original leather in the rest of his over-sized collection which turned on two-in-one jackets and coats as well.

Of their construction he said,

“You have two coats and two jackets in one. It’s like merging two bodies together, a bit like love-making,”.
