JuhoSarvikas, who happens to be the chief product officer down at HMD Global, made an announcement yesterday via twitter that HMD Global is now pushing out the Android 9 Pie update for the Nokia 5.1. With that said, it would go on to make Nokia 5.1 the forth smartphone from Nokia to get the update for Google’s latest software.
While the exact details regarding the roll out were not actually revealed, the phased roll-out is indeed expected over the course of the next few days. It isn’t clear either as to exactly how big the update will be, though many are indeed expecting that it will set you back at least a gigabyte in storage. And while downloading of course, like always, make sure you’re on Wi-Fi

So what will Pie bring to the Nokia 5.1? Well, for starters, we will have a new system navigation functionality, along with other features ranging from the likes of Adaptive Battery, Adaptive brightness, as well as App actions. This might not end up being the case though, as these features are not confirmed, due to the fact that the changelog isn’t here to confirm any of them. Also, when you consider the fact that the Nokia 8’s Pie update excluded Adaptive battery, there is even more of a case made that not ever pie feature will indeed be available on the Nokia 5.1.
Anyways, it’s really refreshing to see HMD Global on a path of continuity with regards to its Pie roll-out. The company was in fact on the top of the pile in terms of how quickly it updated a wide swath of its devices, right by the end of last year.
Now, with regards to the timeline that HMD Global has presented itself with, the next Nokia smartphones that will be getting the Pie update by the end of March will include both the Nokia 3.1 and the Nokia 2.1. Following both these devices will be the Nokia 3 and the Nokia 1, with both the devices set for the pie update in “early Q2 2019.”
