Both Huawei and Oppo have implemented a periscope lens in their flagship devices, with the sensor featuring in the P30 Pro from Huawei’s side, and Oppo integrating the lens on the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom. Considering the fact that the lens enhances and takes photography to the next level, it was an easy guess that more manufacturers would soon follow – and so has been the case, as Xiaomi is looking to join in the club too.
The speculation has built up after Xiaomi’s “Camera Components and Electronic Devices” was unveiled. The patent carries the application number CN201822150093.2, dated December 20th, 2018, being released to the public on the 2nd of July.

The patent from the Chinese manufacturer shows that the camera components which have been described in its patent scheme include a main lens plus at least one potential auxiliary lens. It goes on to show that by setting up the main lens along with at least one optical axis perpendicular to the main lens light axis, and also by making the inlet of the periscope lens fit right with the light outlet of the main lens, the periscope auxiliary lens can be used without even increasing the thickness of the main lens.
As of now, we don’t have any information present as to what phone from Xiaomi will feature with this new camera technology. However, the speculation in relation to the matter is that the company could end up using this in the Mi MIX series considering the fact that it does indeed happen to be the most expensive series from Xiaomi.
It is important to consider that this is just all speculation and rumors at this point, and it is quite possible that some other phone may feature with the technology – what that phone will be, we can only wait and see.
