The new finding has been made with the assistance of NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). The researchers of NASA have discovered 8 sites where there come into view large ice deposits that are somewhat close up to the surface, NASA estimates that they’re enclosed in about 1 to 2 yards and are 3 to 6 feet below rock and dust of Red Planet.

In light of these facts, Researchers at NASA concluded that H2O is there in great quantity in the form of buried ice at Mars.
According to the co-author Shane Byrne of the University of Arizona,
“The discovery reported today gives us surprising windows where we can see right into these thick underground sheets of ice. Astronauts could essentially just go there with a bucket and a shovel and get all the water they need.”

In other hands, Research like these will come very useful for the future operations at Mars, as SpaceX’s founder Elon Musk has already confirmed his plans for taking first human settlers to the Mars by 2024.
With the help of High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on the MRO, researchers had conducted various tests and then have found the scarp sites by estimating colors.
In order to confirm the purity of ice they have used CRISM (Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars). The MRO has already discovered various ice sheets at other locations on Mars using its Shallow Radar camera; however it was unfeasible to know how much deep down they have to dig for finding water.
Now, scientists have identified that water is close enough to get without problems on Mars.
