Former President Pervez Musharraf has filed a petition challenging special court’s decision in high treason case. The special court sentenced Musharraf to death under high treason. He filed a review plea in Lahore High Court against the decision of the special court in high treason on December 17.
Musharraf has been sentenced to death by the special court on November 3, 2007 emergency, which he imposed in order to dismiss the judges of the Supreme court.
The petition filed in the high court raised objections on para 66 of the judgement. The petition further maintained that the judgement was passed in a hurry without hearing Musharraf.
The petition is filed by the legal counsel of Musharraf, Advocate Azhar Siddique on Musharraf’s behalf filed the 86 page long petition. A date of hearing has been set for the case, Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi will chair the full bench on January 9.

The petition raised serious objections on para 66 of the detailed verdict by Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth, which reads, “As a necessary corollary to what has been observed we find the accused guilty as per charge. The convict be therefore hanged by his neck till he dies on each count as per charge. We direct the Law Enforcement Agencies to strive their level best to apprehend the fugitive/convict to ensure that the punishment is inflicted as per law and if found dead, his corpse be dragged to the D-Chowk, Islamabad, Pakistan and be hanged for 03 days,”
In accordance to the para 66 of the judgment, the petition that has been filled, reads, “the Honourable respective president of the special court has crossed all religious moral, civil and constitutional limits, while ruthlessly, irreligious, unlawfully, unrealistically awarding a debilitating, humiliating, unprecedented and against the dignity of a person sentence […] through para 66.”
Furthermore, the petition raised questions on the evidence that was presented before the special court, as it states, “no offence of high treason is made out from the evidence presented against him [Musharraf] before the special court,”
