MIT researchers invent a new technology to see through walls. Want to monitor someone, even if a wall is acting as a resistance to do so. Don’t worry, as MIT Computer scientists at Artificial Laboratory have developed a machine that can successfully see people through walls.
The Computer scientists have invented the system, which recreates your poses when you move. It works on wireless radio signals to sense where you are and then recreates your body like a natural stick figure called RF-Pose.
The main objective behind this technology is to monitor people for health and safety purposes. For example, if your grandpa or any other elderly/ sick person has a risk of falling, you can use this technology for their surveillance to make sure they don’t fall or get into any trouble.
According to the team, this system can be used to keep an eye on people suffering from Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis (MS). This technology will facilitate doctors in better understanding of the development of disease. As a result, the doctors can prescribe medications.
Moreover, it will also help elderly people live stress-free life, when they will be aware that they are being monitored by their loved ones.

As, I mentioned earlier, the main focus of the team is to utilize this technology for healthcare, to facilitate passive monitoring of an individual.
The researchers declared that the data of the subjects has been collected after consent of the subject and to make sure user privacy it has also been encrypted.
On the other hand, the team has a plan to incorporate a consent mechanism for applications in the real world. So, a person who has installed the device will activate it for monitoring by doing a particular set of movements.
“If you think of the computer vision system as the teacher, this is a truly fascinating example of the student outperforming the teacher,” said researcher Antonio Torralba.
For instructing the neural network, the researchers showed machine, video of a person who is walking next to the RF interface that they made as they moved. They finalized this system by covering stick figures on the movement and training the network to do the same automatically.
Although, the researchers did not particularly train the system to see through the walls, however the system generalized this knowledge. So, yes, it can handle through wall movement of any person on the other side.
Well, for now there is no word, if the system will be used for other commercial purposes or not.
