Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Pakistan placed in top 5 nominations for international Equals in Tech Awards. At the end of the year, great news for Pakistan is that Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MITT) has been placed in top 5 nominations for international Equals in Tech Awards for its information and communications technology (ICT) project for girls.
This year, 293 nominations were received from all over the world counting 72 countries. These contained submissions from a variety of organizations working to facilitate women to “bridge the digital divide”, counting those who are representing the private government and civil sector.
The awards ceremony would be held from December 19 to 20 in Geneva to aspire and endorse gender equality in the ICT sector and putting forward the role of women as decision-makers.
After receiving all entries through evaluation process, the panel of 15 finalists have selected from the categories of Access, Skills and Leadership.

Pakistani girls made their place among top five, which is really impressive and a great achievement.
The 15 finalists symbolize ground-breaking initiatives that have realized momentous results in some of areas of the world where women are most demoralized.
These initiatives caused the real change in the communities that they serve and have unlock doors for women to vital digital financial and social benefits.
Prizes are awarded for exceptional accomplishment and inventive strategies, in these three categories: Skills, Access and Leadership.
The purpose of “Equals in Tech” Awards (formerly the GEM-TECH Awards) is to endorse gender equality and mainstreaming in technology. It’s an annual scheme which helps women all around the world
In addition to sustaining gender equality in the ICT sector and pressing forward the position of women as ICT decision-makers, the awards also show how ICTs can be used to radically advance social, political and financial outcomes for women and girls.
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Women Executive Director said “Bridging the gender digital divide is a clear prerequisite if we want the 21st century to become the century of gender equality. Women and girls all over the world need equal rights and equal opportunities to shape the global knowledge society.”
