The release of the Huawei Mate 20 isn’t too far away, as we’ll have to wait only a few weeks more before getting our hands on Huawei’s latest and upcoming flagship phone. Though the rumors have been floating around, a new leak has just gone on to reveal a variety of camera features for Huawei’s upcoming flagship.
Following a teardown of the Mate 20 camera app, there have been several modes and features revealed. One of these features starts with the underwater mode. As the name suggests, this let’s you take “clear shots in underwater environments,” as the volume up key would be used to record videos, while the pushing the volume down rocker will be used for the snap of a photo. The power key will used to enable, or even disable the app.
Though this brings about some excitement, it isn’t actually the first time that we’ve seen an underwater mode on an OEM’s camera app, because Hisense’s phone too features this option. What hisense mode let’s you do is to shoot with the aid of the volume keys, however, it also disables all touch input for the prevention of the phone’s UI going all wonky right under water. The main difference here comes along the lines of Huawei encouraging its users to stick their phone in an underwater pouch, rather than just letting you actually dip the device straight in water.

Another interesting feature following the first one allows you to automatically adjust the zoom level to keep the subject of your photo/video completely centered. This in particular sounds like a great idea, especially if the case arises of you filming your child at a school play, or perhaps you wanting to film your friend on the sports field. In both these cases, this feature will help to a great extent.
There are also two video related features that Huawei is working on, all in accordance to the teardown. The first amongst this is dubbed AI Cinema, which essentially delivers a handful of filters for video recording. Amongst these filters is also an inclusion of an “AI Color” option, which keeps the subject in color and the background in monochrome. And also not to mention, there is the inclusion of a background blur option.
The second feature related to the video aspects in the app is a video bokeh option. This new option allows users to customize the bokeh shapes in the background of their clips, these including the likes of shapes such as circles, butterflies, and hearts. This isn’t the first time however that we’ve seen such a feature, as Samsung’s galaxy J8 already has a similar feature in its locker.
