Huawei has gone on to take action against Verizon after the Chinese manufacturer slapped a compensation claim equating to a billion dollars against the company – with this covering licensing fees for more than 230 of the its patents. The claim was issued all the way back in February of this year, with Huawei going on to ask Verizon to cough up to “solve the patent licensing issue.” This relates to both core as well as wireless network gear along with IoT equipment. Such information is obtained with accordance to a report coming from the Wall Street Journal.
While Verizon does not actually use equipment coming from Huawei, the company does actually depend on 20 vendors that go on to use Huawei technologies. Huawei’s patent claim with regards to this goes on to cover properties including both network devices as well as wireless technology. Sources that have been in contact with the New York Times have indeed claimed that on the condition of anonymity, the claims with regards to the patent would go on to equal more than a Billion dollars in total.

Representatives from both Huawei and Verizon held a meeting which took place in New York, in order to discuss some of the patents at issue. A spokesperson from Verizon went on to say that while the company had no comment on the issue itself, “these issues are larger than just Verizon.” He also further claimed that “Given the broader geopolitical context, any issue involving Huawei has implications for our entire industry and also raise national and international concerns.”
Just last month Huawei was put in a huge mess – a direct consequence of the United States putting the company on a blacklist that barred it from doing business with any companies that were based in the US. Such a decision was made on grounds of security concerns and increasing tensions between the governments of both the US and China. The decision from the US government has had severe consequences for Huawei, as it prompted a large amount of tech firms to cut ties with the Chinese manufacturer.
