ProtonMail and Huawei have been in talks for quite some time in order to figure out a deal that would see ProtonMail as the primary email service client on Huawei devices, should the ban completely go through and should Huawei be stripped off of their Google apps license.
About ProtonMail, it is a Swiss Company that has been known for its secure and encrypted email services. Something that Google hasn’t been able to provide. Google has been under scrutiny for such things and the lack of privacy of people but the size that Google is right now and how it has instilled itself into people’s lives now, there seems to be no other option but to continue using Google Apps knowing that it is tracking everything. That’s what ProtonMail aims to change. It is providing a very suitable alternative which is incredible secure and encrypted and since Huawei cant use Gmail, it would have to go with ProtonMail.

Currently, ProtonMail is in the Google play store and could soon make way to the Huawei app store, AppGallery.
Despite efforts from Huawei to hold its own against the US ban, it is strongly predicted that it would suffer a lot from the lack of business in the future in America and would have to find a serious alternative really soon if it has to give itself any chance of surviving since it has become one of the biggest companies in the world in a considerably short amount of time.
ProtonMail was also skeptical of the Chinese privacy issue and would see that as the only roadblock on what should be a rather smooth deal. ProtonMail has dismissed any political biasness towards Huawei and has clearly stated that it is politically neutral on the matter and that by having ProtonMail on Huawei devices, it is giving a chance for Europe to look into American alternatives for apps.
