Even though the Huawei 20 lite has been announced at the IFA 2018, it is on another phone that everyone has their eye on – the mate 20. The rumors were flying around high with regards to the release of the phone, and now Huawei has finally put these rumors to bed once and for all, after finally revealing the launch date for their latest and upcoming smartphone. The date is set to be the 16th of October, and the smartphone/phablet will be unveiled in London.
However, it wasn’t only the phone’s release date which was revealed by Huawei – the company also took the opportunity to reveal the fact that the phone would actually be its first to feature the company’s brand new kirin 980 chipset. The latest chipset, which was also announced at the IFA, packs a 7nm manufacturing process, and if you think that this is the only upgrade from the previous year – then you’re in for a surprise, because the company has delivered on plenty of other upgrades too, though these are, for now, on paper.
The kirin 980 not only offers a dual NPU for improved AI smarts, but also a Mali-G76 MP10 GPU. The company has also upgraded its CPU cores, as well as changing the layout, offering two Cortex-A76 CPU cores at 2.6Ghz,two Cortex-A76 cores at 1.92Ghz, and four Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8Ghz.

At the moment, no other specs regarding the phones are confirmed, however the latest rumors do tend to suggest that we can come to expect a 4200mAh battery, while a triple camera setup integrated as well.
Huawei used the IFA 2018 to not only announce the latest Kirin 980 and the Mate 20 Lite, but also the latest P20 Pro variants, along with the company’s AI Cube smart speaker, coming along with the all so eagerly waited cellular connectivity.
It certainly looks like a big year for Huawei. The company’s expectations would be sky high for 2018, and with the latest smartphones, plus the kirin980, amongst other things, the sale numbers are obviously looking to be of a huge potential, at least for now that is. Will those sale numbers be achieved, and whether or not the smartphones turn out to be of success, only time will tell.
