The main talking points concerning Huawei this year have been in relation to the trade ban that the US imposed on the company just a few months ago. Of course, Huawei has been facing many issues with the ban in place, as the company has been forced to source components elsewhere when it depended quite heavily on some of these US based firms, while the company has also had to do without Google services on its latest Mate 30 flagship series.
All the way back in June, the President of the United States stated that some US companies would indeed be allowed to collaborate with Huawei once again, however, for now, such companies haven’t exactly received the required licenses in order to conduct business. Fortunately for all those involved that have been hopeful for months now, the US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross recently went on to tell Bloomberg that these licenses “will be forthcoming very shortly,” as he further commented on the fact that the government had received 260 license applications.

He said : “That’s a lot of applications – it’s frankly more than we would’ve thought.” He carried on, saying : “Remember too with entity lists there’s a presumption of denial. So the safe thing for these companies would be to assume denial, even though we will obviously approve quite a few of them.”
While Ross didn’t exactly give a timeline as to suggest when these approvals will come into place, it is expected that all the necessary work will be carried out before the end of the year.
The biggest question still remains though : will Google receive a license to deal with Huawei? The Mate 30 series made history as it became the very first Huawei flagship series to lack Google services. This has led to Huawei not really pushing out the device in the west. This of course has had serious consequences as Huawei has seen sale numbers decline. Of course, Google has played an integral part in the company’s progression, and whether or not both these giants will be allowed to affiliate with one another again – we can only wait and see.
