Huawei has finally come closer to its goal by beating Apple and claiming the No. 2 position in smartphone seller spot. On the other hand, Apple’s shipments have slowed down in Q2 2018 making its position downward.
According to the research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), which released its numbers today, Huawei left behind Apple by turning out 2nd biggest phone maker. The ranking is solely based only on the number of devices both firms shipped in the second quarter of 2018 that ended on June 30.
As per details of IDC, Huawei got 15.8% market share while Apple stands at 12.1%.
Samsung Reigns Supreme
Samsung continues the undisputed No.1 position in current smartphone market and got the throne of no 1 smartphone seller. It has sold 71.5 million units and captures 20.9% market share.

Within 2nd quarter of 2018, working revenue of the world’s greatest chip and smartphone maker climbed 5.7% to $14.9 billion (from $13.3 billion) which is great achievement.
In addition, the IDC report states shows that Apple has not been the No.1 or No.2 smartphone company in terms of market share from the time the second quarter of 2018.
Ryan Reith, IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Device Trackers Vice President said, “To say the least, its ability to move into markets where, until recently, the brand was largely unknown is impressive.”
What were reasons behind Huawei’s success?
One of the primary factors behind the success of Huawei was Honor brand and a healthy welcome for the P20 series. Moreover, Huawei is now trying hard to enter the US market and at last the company was brilliant to sign a partnership with AT&T. It is important to mention here that Huawei has had an intense clash with the US lawmakers in recent past.
In a nutshell, results of IDC shows that while Apple’s smartphone sales grew, however they aren’t growing as fast as Huawei and its fellow Chinese company Xiaomi.
