Government launched an app for consumers to get real-time electricity billing info. Pakistan is trying to maintain its pace in technology sector with modern world. Despite the fact that the government has not been so effective in providing a superior digital ecosystem and a fine internet landscape it’s good that somehow IT sector is growing.
However, the good news is now a great initiative has been taken by government’s power division as it sets a new landmark for the ease and convince of the public.
Recently government has launched a mobile app which will inform users about instantaneous and real-time electricity billing and supply condition of any public sector distribution company.
”Roshan Pakistan” is an Android-based app which will make sure the transparency in the power system. The purpose behind this step was to provide the real-time access of energy sector’s information to public.

Through this app electricity consumers or users will be able to get the information about the electricity usage, supply and billing.
The app would also permit to calculate potential electricity bills online. The app will work devoid of any human intervention.
Federal Minister for Power Division, Ahmed Khan Leghari was present at launch event as he introduced the mobile app for public. Leghari said that the government was focusing upon dealing with power shortages and building electricity generation capacity in the tenure of previous 4 years.
While in the current year, government has got chance to shift its preferences towards the improvement for consumer services, with providing awareness and precision.
The new “Roshan Pakistan” app is accessible in two language versions i.e. English and Urdu. The app features a variety of choices for the conveyance of users.
The app got four main features, which includes
- The load-shedding schedule
- Billing information
- Net metering
- Bill calculator
The app will allow users an easy access to view planned load shedding schedule and actual load shedding. It will provide users the facility of Net-Metering at their individual feeder by just entering Reference No.

Minister for Power division Mr. Leghari said,
“Making this information public is for making ourselves accountable to the public. From now on, each power feeder of Discos will be on the radar of the public. We have brought these details to the palm of a consumer.”
However, Govt’s effort in taking such steps is worthy, yet the real problem faced by the power sector in Pakistan is the shortage of electricity, which somehow still exists and remained unsolved.
