Government to issue e-passports for easy and secure travel from next year. Recently Ahsan Iqbal, Interior Minister of Pakistan has announced that the issuance of e-passport by the passport and immigration office will be initiated from next year, March 2018.
He made this announcement while addressing to the inaugural ceremony of e-passport at the Interior Ministry, Islamabad.
According to the details, the first phase of e-passport will be started from March 2018 for the government officials counting the embassies staff and the second phase will be obviously for the common citizens of Pakistan will started from August 2018.
The concept of upcoming e-passport will be based on latest technology containing an electronic chip. This chip holds all the relative information regarding the passenger personal information. This incorporated chip in the e-passport will include the electronic image of the passport holder.

Digital means will be used to verify the identity of the traveler in these biometric passports.
The objective behind this move is to secure travel documents as new design will put off it to be copied or tampered and make it more secure than ever before.
In order to prevent duplication of information there are multiple layers of security in the e-passport which will improve the security level. It would also prevail over the practice of exploitation of passports and facilitate the public.
It is pertinent to mention here, this e-passport project was approved by the prior Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, last year.
This e-passport is also known as a biometric passport. This e-passport would make sure safe and sound travel and quicker immigration procedure.
The purpose of this e-passport is to help and offer the safety against identity theft. It will also save from harm the individual privacy of a traveler.
To improve the security level Pakistani government is taking a significant step and making the smooth progress of authorized travel and trade via global cooperation.
