Google and Apple have been direct competitors for longer than we remember, but that doesn’t stop the tech giants from being an inspiration for one another as they recreate the features to be accessible in their own ecosystem. Over the years, there has been a lot of debate over who came first with idea, but the thing is that since these are two incompatible ecosystems, the users still need features from both of these systems. That is when, each company works on finding alternative features for their users. The latest rumour linked to Android Q confirms the same exact procedure.

it seems we can add another feature to the list of items that continue to blur the line between Android and iOS. According to documentation related to the “MotionEvent” function of Android Q, there will be support for something called “deep press” in the future version of the mobile operating system. The documentation says that “the current event stream represents the user intentionally pressing harder on the screen,” and that deep press should “be used to accelerate the long press behaviour.” In other words, deep press is a function which allows unique responses to occur when a user presses down on the display harder than usual.
It’s also possible deep press could make its debut in the Google Pixel 4, which is expected in October, a few months after we expect the stable version of Android Q to land. Moreover, since that Android platform is the basis of the software of almost all devices except Apple’s, it means that developers of other manufacturers would be willing to utilise this feature into creating even more innovative touch experience. The feature received a lot of praise when it was introduced in Apple a few years ago, and there’s a similar reception expected this time as well.
