Funeral rites of Sridevi in Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala, Mumbai. The last rites of Indian actor Sridevi Kapoor who drowned in her hotel bath after losing consciousness while in Dubai for her nephew marriage ceremony, got attended by numerous Bollywood stars.
Sanjay Kapoor, her brother in law says the 54-year-old, Sridevi died of a cardiac arrest. She who for years remain one of the Bollywood’s top stars, and died late on Saturday.
The Dubai police, after a postmortem tweets that “The death of Indian actress Sridevi occurred due to drowning in her hotel apartment’s bathtub following loss of consciousness,”.
She was an icon, a legend and a mentor to several actors in India and beyond. Her body was at the Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala in Mumbai before cremation and she was given a befitting final farewell as film stalwarts from all the generations turned up to pay respects.
The streets were lined with heavy security to control huge crowds of fans, came to chant prayers when Sridevi’s body was brought in.
The industry veterans like Rekha, Sushmita Sen, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karisma Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit & Kajol alongside several new-age actors including Deepika Padukone, Sidharth Malhota, Shahid Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor & Shraddha Kapoor attended were present to pay their condolences for the departed soul.
Kajol shared a picture with the dead on Instagram saying, “You are loved, mourned, missed, remembered. And forever relevant! If cinema has a hundred years you were in 50 of them. Keep smiling!”

The prayer hall, yesterday opened its doors for the public to pay their last respects to the Indian cinema icon, who was shrouded in the Indian flag.
Hema Malini, who came with her daughter Esha Deol to pay their respects to Sridevi said, Sridevi was “A beautiful girl, a wonderful actress, a lovely human being” she also added that Sridevi has so suddenly been snatched from our midst amd now the most needed thing is compassion for her 2 young girls deprived of their mother and compassion for her grieving husband.
Hema Malini said that this is not the time to analyze the reasons or belittle her passing away, rather it is time to resolve to bestow on her the dignity of death showing her the respect she deserves.
Hema Malini was the first to tweet a reaction after seeing Sridevi’s body, and in her first tweet she said “she lay there, beautiful in a red saree, serene in death and totally at peace.”
To attend Sridevi’s funeral, Deepika Padukone returned to Mumbai yesterday morning.
Madhuri Dixit Nene also took part in the final condolence proceeding with her husband Sriram Nene. Madhuri, following the news of Sridevi’s death, said, “Just woke up to the terrible news of Sridevi passing. My heart goes out to her family. The world has lost a very talented person who left behind a huge legacy in film.”
